Since 1986 METEC&SAGGESE was responsible for research contracts supported by the European Union, whose object was the superficial treatment plant PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) and now has several contracts signed by the European Union in the Renewable Energy field and Energy Saving:
SAVE 93 – Project T.O.H.E.R. (Turin Old Houses Energy Recovery) (XVII/41031/93):
Verify of the energetic efficiency of 10.300 dwellings Public Buildings. A project supported by European Union SAVE programme (DG XVII). Partners: METEC Engineering Srl - Torino - Italy, CITTA' di TORINO - Torino - Italy, CENERGIA - Ballerup – Denmark.
Joint Research Centre Ispra – Rehabilitation of Bldg 45 A (56-93-12 IM ISPI): Project for a “Low Energy - Low CO2” building prize winner inside of the ECOCENTRE project - Joint Research Centre of the European Community in Ispra (VA). Project Target THERMIE 93: “An integrated global energy design for 8 Housing Associations in 6 different countries”. (BU/1043/93/DK/UK/IR/NL/ES/IT/PO - BU/1043/94/DK/UK/IR/NL/ES/IT/PO). Plant design for 68 dwellings of Public Buildings using innovative technologies for energy and management saving of 40%. A project supported by European Union THERMIE programme. Project SAVE ’94 “Education and training activities in the energy network for public/non profit housing associations in order to promote energy efficient solutions”.
Constitution of a works group of experts in the Energy sector which will examine about 30 different projects in the residential sector and will successively organise courses and diffusion seminars. A guide that will sum-up the developed experience will be also prepared. A project supported by European Union SAVE programme. Project SAVE ’95 “Energy efficient and cost effective rehabilitation of old one-family houses in Denmark” (SA/02/95/DK).
Evaluation of the possibility to use high energy efficiency tools in rehabilitation projects of old one-family houses in Denmark in order to obtain energy saving. Project THERMIE ’95 – Type "Methode d’Evaluation d’Actions Exemplaires de Maitrise de la Demande d’Electricitie dans le logement social" (SUP/0584-95-FR):
Set up and application of a method for the evaluation of interesting actions in the management of the electricity demand in the social houses. The aim of the method is to analyse the consequences of an action of electricity demand management for the owner, the manager or the tenant of social houses. Project Targeted THERMIE ’96 “European Green Cities integrated quality: a network co-operation between European cities with the aim to introduce green city action plans as part of sustainable urban planning for new-built or retrofit in 11 European cities”. (BU/01001/DK-ES-IT).
Realisation of local demonstration projects for new-built and retrofit buildings in 11 European cities in order to introduce an integrated sustainable global solar low energy design based on energy and environmental assessment together with a total energy and total economy approach in future actions of urban planning. A project supported by European Union THERMIE programme. Partners: 11 European countries joined the "European Green Cities Network" (Italy, Denmark, UK, Spain, Finland, Germany, Greece, France, Belgium).
Project SAVE ’96 “Total energy optimisation and EMS survey as basis of creating guaranteed results for energy savings in connection to energy efficient and cost effective rehabilitation of old housing blocks” (XVII4.1031/SA/70/96/DK).
Development of a evaluation method for low energy rehabilitation projects based on EMS (Energy Management System) survey; the purpose is to apply a danish computer tool for energy and economy optimisation ("Optibuild" programme), transferred and used in the previous EU SAVE 1993 (T.O.H.E.R. project), and to document the capability of "Optibuild" of predicting energy savings in pratical low energy rehabilitation building projects. Project THERMIE – Type B ’97 “Analysis and subsequent use of air-type solar collectors: determining new applications in non-industrial buildings” (SME/1434/97/IT). Analysis of the existing types of air-type solar collectors in European territory and of the performance and results of significant and comparable installations in Europe, Italy and North American; The aim is determining optimum applications of air-type solar collectors in buildings destined to the tertiary or residential sector and verifying the availability of partners for developing demonstrative projects.

Project THERMIE Type A ’98 “A low-energy Sporting Centre with a solar thermal wall facade as result of a Thermie Type B application” (RB/279/98/IT)
Energy retrofit of a public Sporting Centre in the Municipality of Monselice (PD) with the combination of both renewable energy utilisation and traditional maintenance interventions in order to obtain an energy saving. The retrofit intervention includes a Solar thermal wall facade, the roof insulation, the windows replacement, water solar collector for swimming-pool water heating and for DHW, Photovoltaic modules for electricity production, water saving equipment, new condensing boiler and a EMS. Project THERMIE Type ’98 “Low energy housing retrofit project using Solar Ventilation Towers with Solar assisted super low energy heat recovery ventilation systems” (REB 166/98 DK)
The aim of this project is to demonstrate large energy savings with an innovative Solar Ventilation Tower concept based on solar assisted heat recovery of ventilation air. This system consists in a package where the core is the ventilation system and the cover is the solar function. The Solar Ventilation Tower package will be demonstrate with 197 apartments in Denmark, and 63 apartments in Italy. The objective of the research project is to develop a catalogue or manual with a definition of performance indicators and performance requirements/recommendations for best practice technologies in the area of Rational Use of Energy (RUE) and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in buildings. The working group will refer to the experiences of 10 different EU countries in the area of RUE and RES applied on the building sector. (Year 2001).
